Another name for this recipe should be inside date balls. Like date balls (bliss balls, energy bites…whatever suits your fancy) the recipe is easy, adaptable and so delicious.
Dates are natures candy, and there was a time when i could have them on their own. But now my taste buds have changed and they are too sweet without incorporating a bitter or at least neutral addition to them to balance out the sweetness. And you might as well increase the nutritional power house of our beloved date with some additional superfoods.
I’ve used the superfoods I have at home and use most often. But please free to adapt the recipe by increasing or reducing to what you have available in your kitchen. You can add protein powder if you don’t have some of the seeds for example or increase the flax meal if you don’t have the hemp. I’ve included some suggestions below for making the recipe grain-free and nut-free if you wish.
A recommendation to breastfeeding mothers is to add some ground up fenugreek seeds. You will end up smelling like maple syrup, but it’s worth it.
These dates are the perfect snack pre or post-workout, or to satisfy a sweet craving while still eating healthily. I love having a couple in the afternoon with some Arabic coffee as pictured below.
