Ready Steady Glow by Madeleine Shaw

I first came across Madeleine Shaw on YouTube. Her main focus is health and nutrition, and I enjoy doing a couple of her yoga videos. She’s also the author of 2 cookbooks, Get The Glow, and the book I’m reviewing here Ready, Set, Glow.

All recipes in the book are gluten-free, using almond, oat or buckwheat flour mostly. Baked and dessert recipes are all refined sugar-free using honey, maple syrup and coconut sugar. Although yoghurt is used, most recipes use dairy-free milk and I haven’t come across any recipes with cheese.

The book has an informative introduction, with health tips and ingredient explanation. Most of the recipes have a lovely picture, and there’s a section on yoga with a yoga sequence to follow.

Although I’ve had her book for some time, I have only made the Chocolate Chip Cookies. The cookies tasted good, however they spread out way too much once baked, which I’m not too keen on.

I decided it’s about time I tried more recipes from the book for my weekly book review on snap chat, and my plant-based vegetarian recipe preference took over. Although there are plenty of vegetarian recipes, there are many with seafood, chicken and red meat.

The recipes I did end up wanting to try were all vegetarian and are more suitable for breakfast or brunch. I tried making the Spinach Bread, topping it with smashed avocado, smoked salmon and lots of lemon juice, salt, pepper and chili flakes. The beetroot crepes were so pretty and pink, and would try making them again probably swapping up the beetroot for another vegetable. The vegan oat and banana pancakes also turned out great. I also made the courgette haloumi fritters, which although tasted good, I would not make again.

I plan to try some of her non-vegetarian recipes like the sticky Asian prawns, chicken fajitas and flaked miso salmon, and will update this post once I do!
