I love themed tables, however they do require quite a lot of time and planning, so I don’t get to do them as often as I would like. I wanted to do a super simple brunch or picnic themed table to celebrate Kuwait’s National Day that will hopefully inspire you to do the same.
Let’s start with the set up before we get into the delicious food. Most of what is pictured was either bought at our local supermarket (co-op) or IKEA (what would we do without IKEA?!). The red and white gingham picnic basket I bought years back from Lakeland, which has now closed unfortunately. I like to use it as a centre piece, and placed decorative items inside, like I did with the flowers, plants, flags, cake pops and traditional tea pots.
In addition to the table, I laid out a sadu style picnic mat with Kuwait flag colored pillows. The mat can usually be found at most supermarkets especially around this time of year when people like to go camping. The pillows were purchased from IKEA.
Now to the food! I’m gonna list them down here, and where they are from or how to make it yourself. You can make the food labels using a website like picmonkey.
Kuwait Flag Open-Sandwiches and Yoghurt pops were made by Bento Mommy.
The Kuwait Flag Taboule pictured below recipe can be found here.
Crackers, Crudités and Dip – The crackers are from Crumbs and you can also find the recipe here. Crudites are vegetables cut up into sticks for dipping, and the dips were a combination of different dips we serve at Crumbs chosen based on the Kuwait flag colors.
Mini pizza was made at Crumbs, but super simple to make at home with a basic pizza sauce (I like the one from Natureland) with mozzarella cheese, black olives and green peppers. Again the colors resemble the colors of the Kuwaiti flag. Mini Cheese Burgers are also from Crumbs. Simple enough for the kids with toothpick flags.
Flag Cake Pops (pictured above), cupcakes and decorated brownies (pictured below) were all made by Crumbs and available to order on Carriage and Bleems.
These healthy and popular vegan and gluten-free Chocolate Date Cookies (pictured below) taste like brownies, and so delicious no believes they are so healthy. They also available at Crumbs and or to order on Bleems and Carriage. Otherwise, you can make the recipe yourself at home.
Mini Chocolate Pancakes with Vanilla Cashew sauce and fresh raspberries looked absolutely adorable and tasted amazing. Decorate as you like with fruit, pistachios, fresh mint and mini flags
The fresh juices were ordered from Crumbs. I went with Lemon with Mint for the green color and Antioxidant Punch for the red color. Don’t they look cute in the mini jars?
Thanks to my talented sister-in-law Jana from bento-mommy for contributing two delicious dishes for the table. And thanks to our lovely intern Lulu for all her help in sourcing the decorations used. A special thanks to the team at Crumbs for their help too, especially Vilma and our in house photographer Remo. And last but never least, my lovely mom Altaf AlEssa for hosting the brunch at her house.
