Best Vegan & Vegetarian London Eats

I absolutely love London – it’s a wonderful city for walking, with amazing shops, museums, and of course the theatre. However, my absolute true joy is the food…eating at my favorite spots and discovering new places to enjoy delicious eats.
I’m not a vegan nor a vegetarian, but as you may have probably noticed from the recipes on this blog, I tend to eat plant-based about 90% of the time even when traveling…and especially if traveling alone.
So here are my favorite places you can enjoy vegetarian & vegan food whether you are vegan or not!
Gail’s – this is, by all means, the absolute best bakery in London. I could eat breakfast there every day and not get bored. In fact, I did just that 1 trip. If you’re vegetarian then you will find many options. If you’re vegan then it’s worth going just for their avocado toast….their sourdough is exceptional, and they even have gluten-free sourdough. I absolutely love their granola, however, if you’re vegan it will be off-limits, as I’m pretty sure they use butter. They always have chia pudding in the display fridge that changes with the season, and it’s always vegan. Plus their coffee is exceptional, with both oat and almond milk as dairy-free options. Get their vegan hot chocolate or even better a dairy-free mocha Yum! Not a coffee fan? They have the best tea and it’s always loose-leaf. Kids with you? The cinnamon rolls, pictured below, are a must.
Ginger & White – If you find yourself in leafy Hampstead, Ginger & White is definitely worth a visit, especially for brunch. They also have a location in Belsize park, but I’ve only been to the one in Hampstead.
The Deli  – created by the gorgeous blogger behind the Deliciously Ella brand and cookbook author Ella Woodward. The deli is very conveniently located close to Oxford St. with predominantly vegan and gluten-free meals. It’s the perfect place for breakfast, lunch or dessert after a shopping spree in Bond Street or Selfridges.
Mildred’s – established in 1988, it’s one of the oldest and well known vegetarian restaurants in London. I’ve only been to their Soho location, and they are busy all the time. They don’t take reservations, so you need to keep in mind you’ll be waiting for up to an hour for a table. The food is excellent with a good variety, however, it’s quite small and can feel cramped. Worth the wait and the crampiness. The service is always warm and welcoming.
Wild Food Cafe – My absolute favorite vegan restaurant in London. And I’m not biased because I’ve done two courses with them in 2019  and got to know the owners and staff. This is how I have felt for years. At their first Covent Garden restaurant, they serve mostly raw vegan food, in a casual setting with communal seating. At their newer location in Islington, the place is relatively formal with more cooked dishes such as their pizza pictured below. The image on the right is from the plant-based chef course I took with them. Their food is so fresh and nourishing. And the service is always warm and friendly. If you’re in the area, but not so hungry, just get one of their decadent raw desserts and thank me later! Oh and one more thing, their kale chips were the inspiration behind my kale chips recipe, and I was so glad it turned out tasting just as good as theirs.
Wulf and Lamb – located on Pavillion Rd., a pedestrian street very close to Sloane Square and Knightsbridge. It’s perfect for a weekend brunch or afternoon dessert. Their ackee scrambled “eggs” are excellent and their carrot cake is outstanding.
Farmacy – in Notting Hill on Westbourne Grove, Farmacy offers a predominantly vegan menu free from dairy, refined sugar, additives, and chemicals. So probably the only non-vegan ingredient on their menu would be eggs. The restaurant is one of the ‘fanciest’ from this list….not that you would need to dress up, just less casual than the rest. It’s definitely worth the visit, and their pizza is a must.
Kalifornia Kitchen – in Fitzrovia, about 15 minutes walk from Oxford Circus. It has a fun vibe with great food the first time I went, and not so great on our second visit. The nachos and Moving Mountains burger are delicious, and their matcha cheesecake is amazing,
Tell Your Friends – located in Parsons Green, Fulham, I had dinner there twice and loved it. Definitely the place to go if you want to indulge. As at Kalifornia Kitchen above, they serve the Moving Mountains burger pictured below. They also serve brunch and dessert.
Can’t get to London but want to try their food? Almost all of the restaurants mentioned have cookbooks.
