Breastfeeding Tea

This tea recipe was given to me by an amazing woman! She has had such a positive influence on my life. However, more about that in a future blog post God willing.
Her name is Iva Keene, and she is a Naturopathic doctor specializing in infertility. I was pregnant with Noura at the time, and was having a conversation with Iva about my worry that I won’t be able to properly breastfeed my baby, as I had difficulty with my first child, Lulu. She told me about this tea. I drank it every single day and successfully breastfed Noura for a year. I must admit it wasn’t just the tea, and more about that in hopefully a future post. However, the tea is good for you whether you are breastfeeding or not. I kept drinking it even after I stopped breastfeeding. My friends would ask me for it or expect it whenever they came over. It’s not only delicious, but a remedy for indigestion and bloating, boosts immunity and an awesome sleep aid. The benefits of the tea also passes through the mother’s milk to the baby helping relieve any symptoms of colic.
I purchase the seeds from International Mill in Kuwait. If you can get hold of organic seeds. that’s even better.
Ingredients:
100g cumin seeds
100g fennel seeds
100g aniseed seeds
100g caraway seeds
Instructions:
  1. Mix all the seeds together and place in a jar.
  2. Take a tablespoon of the seed mix, crush with the back of a fork or in a pestle and mortar. Place in a saucepan and add 2 cups of water. Heat until it starts to boil. Leave to simmer if you would like a stronger flavor.
  3. Strain and enjoy! And try not to spill some of it like I did below.

Hello, I love your blog! This tea sounds amazing.. I am 16 weeks pregnant. Can I start drinking this tea from now or should I wait after delivery?

    Thanks xoxo

Hi Delaila! Congratulations that’s so exciting. I doubt it will help with milk production at this stage, but it would still be good for you, and get you into the habit of drinking it 🙂
